Golden Heart and Snowy Skin
Her long hair once billowed beneath the waves
Those lips of blood rose once the sweetest.
Now the snows have come pale like her skin
Keeping her caged in winter she rests
Ophelia from long disappeared days.
Now an ice maiden in frosted glass lays;
Never more to laugh, sing or jest.
Raven haired beauty cursed by jealousy
Her long dead mother’s protection lost.
As the Evil Queen of no heart ruled with spells,
Sacrificing her soul to pay the cost.
Desiring to possess the greatest beauty
She summoned her guard to protect her vanity
By spilling the girl’s blood on a bed of moss.
In the guise of a hunter he lured her away
With tales of seeing the fairy court’s chase.
But deep in the forest he drew his sword
And turned to the maiden of beauty and grace.
He took her heart and life as she died that day,
In the forest forever she was doomed to stay,
And the snow white girl never fled that ancient place.
The men of the forest, the dwarves from the mountain,
Found her cold corpse and fell for the maid.
To bring her back to life they crafted a new heart
Of silver and sapphires, rubies and jade.
The clockwork princess breathed again
As she lived with the dwarves in their caverns,
And in gardens of gold and jewels she played.
Soon a prince visited the rich Dwarven kings
In a search for weapons to arm his knights.
He fell for the princess with no soul or heart.
Stealing her without having to fight.
For the dwarves knew the secret of her reawakening,
And let him have the monstrosity of their creating
For her heart was hard and her soul had no light.
She outlived her prince and took his throne
Ruling with cruelty the people of the land,
Enslaving all to mine for the jewels of her heart.
Soon only the dwarves held their command,
Crafting a plot to kill the ageless crone
And a Dwarven thief found the queen all alone,
She had hidden where the cold rivers ran.
His duty was simple and he did what he must
As he threw her beneath the waves.
He held her until her struggles stopped,
Her eyes opened wide in an unchanging gaze.
For her crimes her death was too good and just
Though it led to the end of her fervent gold lust,
Only the enchanted ice keeping her at bay.
In new tales of old times the truth has disappeared,
And beauty, truth and good are all akin.
But beauty begets lust, wrath and vanity,
From where true tyranny always begins.
For how can one stop what one holds endeared?
Pure beauty is what should be feared,
So beware golden hearts and snow white skin.
